Movin’ Smooth - 50th Anniversary

50 years of movin' smooth.

Miller Camera Support Equipment's NAB launch of the innovative SOLO VJ tripod and Arrow 30 ENG fluid head in 2004 represented the latest milestones in a 50 year film and television history.

The first patent for film camera fluid heads was awarded to Miller in 1946, and our doors opened for production in Sydney 8 years later. Export to Hollywood followed soon after in 1958. Our objective over that time has remained constant: to continually advance the design of pan and tilt heads and tripods to meet the evolving quality and environmental demands of cinematographers, and news and event videographers.

The highly competitive area of news coverage is where we cut our teeth and where we still excel. Producing corrosion-proof, weather resistant, lightweight support systems that withstand seven day use for up to 20 years, remains a challenge.

The results speak for themselves, with Miller tripods used for electronic news gathering (ENG) in the world's leading networks in over 65 countries: BBC, Japan's NHK, TBS Tokyo, TV Asahi, China's CCTV, Australia's Channel 7 & ABC, South Africa's SABC & MNet, India's SaharaTV, Danmarks Radio, France's TV3, America's NBC, Mexico's TV Asteca; and many more.

Miller Camera Support Equipment also features in the corporate, educational and government sector, providing professional solutions for non-broaddcast documentary, training and kiosk AV presentations. Most recently, Miller has turned its attention to DV, where a growing army of up-and-coming videographers are achieving excellent results when they enhance their new MiniDV camcorder images with smooth, stable camera support.

Miller Camera Support Equipment will celebrate its 50th anniversary with a series of Movin' Smooth events throughout 2004, culminating in the launch of a spectacular history document that will seek to encapsulate the spirit and endeavour surrounding capture of the moving image.
