Miller Sponsors Flickerfest 2011
|
What started as a small local festival in 1991 has now grown into the only Academy accredited short film festival in Australia. Flickerfest has fast-established itself as a qualifying festival for the Best Short film and Best Animation categories of the Academy Awards by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Science.
The festival is held over 10 days and is located at the Bondi Pavilion on the iconic Bondi Beach in Sydney. Celebrating it's 20th anniversary in 2011, Flickerfest received 1703 entries globally and on the evening of 16th January the big winner on the night was the quirky French short from director Edouard Deluc "Donde Esta Kim Basinger", which was judged Best Short film of the festival.
Best of the Australian films was the very clever "When the Wind Changes" which was written and starred Richard Davies and was directed by Alethea Jones. The very amusing short was voted the most popular short by the festival patrons and was a very worthy winner. As a long standing sponsor of the domestic and overseas film industries Miller sponsored the award for Best cinematography with Miller International Sales and Marketing Manager Sean Glasson presenting a Miller DS10 Solo DV 2-Stage 75mm Tripod as a prize to Nick Matthews for his memorable work on "The Kiss".
Congratulations to all the winners and best of luck to their Academy nominations down the track and all the best to Flickerfest for a memorable 20 years of excellent work showcasing the best of shorts from around the world.
