Tripods on the green sponge! | Australia
Macquarie Island Nature Reserve is one of the most valuable reserves in Australia and the world. A World Heritage Area, it is also listed as an International Biosphere Reserve.
Tuvulan Tides | Tuvalu
Fred and I are out here for BBC Science to record the events surrounding the King Tide that occurred with the new moon on Feb 28th. On that day, the island’s Bureau of Meteorology - who’ve been collecting tide data on the island for the past 24 years - recorded their highest tide on record, peaking at 3.42 meters (the average is about 2.5m) and during this time much of Funafuti (Tuvalu’s most heavily populated island) flooded.
Flight of the Swamp Ghost | Soloman Islands
With fuel low and the weather and mountains between them and safety the pilot makes the difficult decision to make an emergency landing in swamp on PNG’s remote north coast than take their chances crossing the precipitous ranges. Choosing a relatively open area the big aircraft lumbers in belly-landing into 5 metre high Kunai grass.54 years later I’m standing by the up to my waist in swamp water next to the remarkably well preserved aircraft wrecks of the Pacific war, The Swamp Ghost as the aircraft has become known.
Hubner’s hiked the extremes from Mt Kilimanjaro to Whistler’s Winter Olympics | Mt Kilmanjaro
In 2009 Leigh was asked to climb Mt Kilimanjaro in Tanzania the highest mountain in Africa, a mere 4,600 ft from its base; to shoot a story for Channel 7’s Sunrise program.
