Miller at the F1

2001 was a great year for Miller's DS60 and Arrow HD launch. While the company's new Sprinter/Arrow ENG combination was entering the ranks of the world's major TV networks (NHK, Danmarks Radio, channel 7, BBC, CBC, to name a few) DS60 and Arrow HD systems were delivering stable images to viewers of the Sepang F1 and South East Asian (SEA) Games in Kuala Lumpur, the Hong Kong Rugby Sevens, or the Ice Hockey in Sweden.

Malaysia's TV3 added three DS60 systems to their armory for coverage of the 2001 Malaysian F1 Grand Prix at Sepang, just outside Kuala Lumpur. Two of the Miller systems were set up on HD tripods while the third was mounted to a high hat for fixed position shooting. Shooting with Fujinon 36x lenses is where the DS60's come into their own. "There is just no need to use a 70kg capacity mount for this type of configuration," Clementson believes. "Irrespective of conditions, the DS60 holds telephoto images from the Fujinon 36x or Canon 33x perfectly stable, and allows for ultra-smooth on-shot panning."
