Update from Cockroach Productions....

All is going well with Nick and I. We recently secured a 5 film outreach project in Sumatra The core aim of the project is to use film as a means to establish constructive dialogues between nomadic forest people, local and national government, grassroots NGOs, and industry. Oxfam will be presenting the films on the main stage during the Roundtable for Sustainable Palm Oil in Kuala Lumpurin November 2007. The films will also be distributed and screened across Indonesia through a UN initiative, and we will be distributing them ourselves via the web (including on our films website -, and on the large proliferation of other conservation and social organisation- oriented film and podcast sites popping up). As part of the project we will employ and train two Indonesian interns (one from a conservation organisation, another from a social justice organisation) in filming and edit techniques. We hope to be able to leave the interns with a basic camera and tripod, the idea being that this will help to facilitate their respective organisations' capacity to use film in their campaigns and outreach projects once this project is finished.

Cockroach has also recently set up an Indonesian office with a production partner over there who is helping to co-ordinate this project. Our Indonesian field coordinator will be shooting between our trips out there.

"Don't Hunt Wildlife".....!!! These trees give you an idea of what height the canopy was before the land was cleared. The odd tree is left standing to help the workers navigate the many miles of open plains.

Have you seen our latest website - ? It recently won the Ramin Award at the Wildlife Asia Film Festival in Singapore.

Your friendly Cockroaches,

Evie and Nick.
