Mobile SNG van ahead of the pack
TV Asahi leads Japan in the scope of its location production and sports coverage. The Tokyo-based national broadcaster recently took delivery of the world's most advanced mobile SNG vehicle to assist with its range of news gathering and event coverage duties.
Two Miller Arrow systems came along for the ride. The SNG van provides continuous mobile transmission linking to satellite transponders, primarily for TV Asahi's work covering sporting events such as marathon running. The van and its crew, under the supervision of TV Asahi senior engineer, Mr Kihara, also does the police rounds, involving itself with cops and robber style chases around Tokyo. Mobile support is via a rear mounted camera seat in the vehicle that lets the camera operator stay ahead of the pack in a marathon while being protected from the weather behind a glass panel in the van.
